New CCTV Installed on Brighton Seafront in Push to Improve Safety
New CCTV cameras have gone up on Brighton and Hove seafront as part of a wider push to improve safety along the promenade.
Brighton and Hove City Council already runs a network of CCTV cameras across the city, including a number along the seafront, monitored by council staff with 24/7 access also given to Sussex Police. The new cameras have been added to the lower promenade to complement the existing setup, and come with lighting technology designed to assist with searches. A number of the existing cameras have also been adjusted to give a more complete view of the area.
Part of a Wider Safety Push
The council says the investment is part of broader plans, developed jointly with Sussex Police, to improve safety along the seafront.
"It's important that everyone feels confident and secure when enjoying our seafront at all times of the day. The extra CCTV and changes to our other cameras will help us keep a clearer eye on activity so we can understand potential issues early and respond more quickly where needed. Greater visibility also acts as a strong deterrent to anti-social behaviour along the seafront. This is part of our ongoing work to keep our seafront welcoming and safe for residents and visitors."
Councillor Amanda Grimshaw, Cabinet Advisor for Community Safety
The upgrade follows a series of safety measures the council and police have introduced along the seafront in recent months, as visitor numbers pick up over the summer.
