Three people have been charged after a firearm was discharged into a pub in Hove


Three people have been charged after a firearm was discharged into a pub on Montgomery Street, Hove, earlier this year, with two of them remanded in custody.

The incident happened at around 10pm on Saturday 4 April, when a gun was fired into the premises. A man in his 30s sustained a minor injury. Armed response officers were deployed to the scene.

Five people were arrested in connection with the incident between 5 and 12 April. Three of them, a man and a woman in their 40s and a woman in her 20s, were arrested in the first days of the investigation and released on conditional bail while enquiries continued. Detectives also carried out follow-up searches at a property in the Lanes area of Brighton as part of the investigation.

Three charged

Three people were charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause violence: Carlos Cassidy, 45 (also known as Martin Bennett), Memis Kalmis, 43, and Sade Ward, 40. Cassidy and Kalmis were remanded in custody. Ward was remanded on bail. All three were due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 13 May.

Sussex Police treated the shooting as an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the wider community.
