ImJustBrighton is an independent Brighton and Hove publication. We report what happened, using verified information from reliable sources, and we present it exactly as it occurred. We do not editoralise, add personal opinion or present unverified claims as established fact.
We are not registered with IPSO. We are an independent community publisher and a verified member of the Independent Community News Network. We hold ourselves to the same core principles that govern professional journalism in the UK: accuracy, fairness, right of reply, protection of sources and clear separation between editorial and commercial activity.
One journalist runs ImJustBrighton entirely independently: researching, reporting, writing, editing and publishing every article himself. There is no editorial board, no parent company and no outside influence over what gets published.

The following principles mirror the core clauses of the UK Editors' Code of Practice, the framework that governs professional journalism in the UK. ImJustBrighton applies each of these principles to its reporting.
Accuracy
We do not publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information. Headlines must be supported by the article. Significant inaccuracies are corrected promptly and prominently.
Facts vs opinion
News reporting and factual information are kept clearly separate from any comment or analysis. ImJustBrighton does not mix personal opinion into factual news coverage.
Privacy
Everyone has the right to respect for private and family life. We do not intrude into private matters without justification and do not photograph individuals in places where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
No harassment
We do not intimidate, harass or persistently pursue individuals. If someone asks us to stop, we stop. We do not use material obtained through harassment.
Grief and shock
Enquiries and approaches involving personal grief or shock are made with sympathy and discretion. Publication is handled sensitively.
Suicide reporting
When reporting on suicide, we take care to avoid excessive detail of method, following the Samaritans Media Guidelines and established best practice for responsible reporting.
Children
We do not approach or photograph children at school without permission. Children under 16 are not interviewed on welfare matters without a parent or responsible adult's consent. We do not identify children in sex cases.
Crime reporting
Relatives of those convicted or accused of crime are not generally identified without consent. Particular care is taken over the position of children who witness or are victims of crime.
Sexual assault victims
We do not identify victims of sexual assault unless there is clear legal justification and adequate reason to do so.
No discrimination
We do not make prejudicial or pejorative references to a person's race, colour, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or physical or mental health. Such details are included only when genuinely relevant to the story.
Confidential sources
We protect the identity of confidential sources. If someone shares information with us in confidence, we do not disclose their identity without their explicit permission.
Public interest
We recognise the public interest in detecting or exposing crime, protecting public health and safety, protecting the public from being misled, and disclosing failures by those in positions of power or trust.

Verified before publication
Information is checked against reliable sources before it is published. We do not publish rumour, unverified claims or speculation presented as established fact. Press releases and submitted material are checked before editorial use.
Reported as it happened
We report what occurred, using confirmed facts and direct attributed quotes. We do not add interpretation, spin or personal opinion to news articles. If we were not there, we say so and identify our source.
Right of reply
Individuals, businesses and organisations are offered the opportunity to respond where appropriate, particularly when allegations or significant criticism are involved. We publish responses fairly and in full where relevant.
Headlines that reflect the story
Headlines and social media posts are written to accurately reflect the content of the article and the information available at publication. We do not use misleading or distorted headlines to drive traffic.
Corrections
If a factual error is identified, we correct it promptly and clearly. We do not delete articles to avoid accountability. Where a significant correction is made, it is noted in the article.
Photography and video
Photos and video are published only where ImJustBrighton has permission or the appropriate rights. Images are not manipulated to misrepresent what they show or the circumstances in which they were taken.
Source protection
Anonymous sources may be used when a source requests anonymity and there is legitimate reason to do so. Their identity will not be disclosed without their explicit permission. We do not pressure sources to go on the record.
No AI-written articles
ImJustBrighton does not use AI to write its editorial articles. All reporting, writing, editing and publishing decisions are made by the founder and editor. Human editorial control applies at every stage.
Advertising does not buy editorial control.
Sponsored and paid content is clearly identified as such. Advertisers and commercial partners have no influence over ImJustBrighton's independent editorial decisions.
ImJustBrighton can work with businesses commercially while maintaining a clear, visible distinction between paid promotional content and independent editorial reporting. Where content is commercial in nature, the audience is told.

Tim Graichi Cucarella, legally Abdou El Wahid Graichi Cucarella, is the founder and editor of ImJustBrighton, an independent Brighton and Hove digital news publication established in August 2021.
He researches, photographs, films, writes, edits and publishes local journalism covering Brighton and Hove, including breaking news, community stories, local businesses, food and drink, events, culture, sport and local guides. Every article published on ImJustBrighton is his work.
