Police formally name sisters recovered from the sea off Brighton beach

Police have formally identified the three women whose bodies were recovered from the sea off Brighton beach earlier this month.

The women were sisters from the Uxbridge area of London and have been named as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walter, 32, and Rebecca Walter, 31.

Emergency services were called to the area near Black Rock and Madeira Drive during the early hours of Wednesday, 13 May, after reports of bodies in the water. Officers attended alongside ambulance crews where the three women were recovered from the sea.

Police investigation remains ongoing

Sussex Police say there is currently no evidence of third-party involvement or criminality, however enquiries remain ongoing as officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The investigation has involved reviewing CCTV footage, speaking to witnesses and carrying out enquiries in both Brighton and London.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have seen the sisters near Madeira Drive between the evening of 12 May and the early hours of 13 May to come forward.

Family tribute released

Family photograph released by Sussex Police showing the three sisters identified after the Brighton beach tragedy.

Sussex Police released the family photograph following the formal identification of the three sisters.

In a tribute released through police, the sisters’ father described his daughters as the “joy and light” of the family, saying their loss has left an emptiness “that words cannot heal”.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays said officers would continue working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident while supporting the family through what he described as an incredibly difficult time.

Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the three sisters.
