Police advice to protect your home

Alongside the appeal, Sussex Police have listed ways to make a break-in harder. More is on the force’s crime prevention advice page.

Windows and doors. Secure all windows and doors on every level, not just the ground floor. Consider sash stops and key-operated locks.

Lighting and cameras. Fit motion sensor external lights and motion sensor cameras connected to a smartphone.

Alarm. Use an accredited burglar alarm with upper-floor sensors, mounted high, and put up signage.

Jewellery. Keep high-value jewellery in a wall or floor mounted, fire-rated safe.

If you see something. Report suspicious activity on 101. In an emergency, or if a burglary is in progress, call 999.
