Heidi Bachram is a Brighton-based writer and campaigner who writes about antisemitism and extremism. Bachram has posted on X about the memorial held in Brighton to mark three years since the Hamas-led attacks of 7 October 2023, where Bachram says husband Adam Ma'anit spoke.

Sussex News, our partner site, reported that around 250 people gathered. This article sets out who Heidi Bachram is in Bachram's own words, what has been said about the memorial, and what we have not been able to verify. ImJustBrighton has contacted Heidi Bachram and will update this article with the answers.

The 7 October memorial in Brighton

Sussex News reported that the gathering in Brighton marked three years since the Hamas-led attacks of 7 October 2023, remembering those killed and taken hostage. It described speeches and moments of reflection, a peaceful atmosphere, and a show of togetherness and solidarity from unnamed organisers.

Heidi Bachram, who describes the service as "our memorial service", said in a post on X that husband Adam Ma'anit spoke at it. Sussex News credited its photograph of the gathering to the Bachram X account. ImJustBrighton has not been able to identify the organisers and will ask Heidi Bachram.

What Heidi Bachram said about Sunday's march

On 9 October, Heidi Bachram posted on X about what Adam Ma'anit said at the memorial and about a march planned in Brighton on the Sunday. The post tagged Sussex Police and three other accounts. It read:

At our memorial service on October 7 in Brighton my husband @adammaanit railed against the pro-Pals who are having a march on Sunday to celebrate the 'Al-Aqsa Flood'. That's the name Hamas gave to the massacre. He said Jews are being punished for having restraint. BAN the march.

These are the views and the description of the march given in the post. We have not independently verified who is organising the march or what it is for, and we have not found a statement about it from Sussex Police or Brighton and Hove City Council at the time of writing. The post also includes a video.

Who is Heidi Bachram

The X profile of Heidi Bachram gives the location as Brighton, England, shows a join date of August 2017, and describes the relatives of Bachram's husband as having been murdered and taken hostage by Hamas. Sussex News describes Bachram as a writer, researcher and campaigner on antisemitism and extremism.

The Substack describes Bachram's husband, Adam Ma'anit, as a British Israeli whose relatives were murdered and kidnapped on 7 October, and says: "I fight antisemitism and extremism. For them. For the community."

We have asked where Heidi Bachram is from, how Bachram came to Brighton and how this work began, and will add the answers here.

What Heidi Bachram writes about

The Substack is called "Heidi's Bachram's Substack". Its home page shows posts including:

Those are the titles and descriptions as they appear on the Substack home page. We have not summarised the posts here, and they reflect the author's own views.

What we have asked and what we have not verified

ImJustBrighton has contacted Heidi Bachram to ask about background, the memorial, who organised it, and views on life for Jewish residents in Brighton and Hove. We will update this article with the answers.

  • The organisers of the memorial have not been named in the reports we have seen.
  • The figure of around 250 people comes from Sussex News and has not been confirmed by organisers.
  • What was said at the memorial is taken from Heidi Bachram's post, not from an independent record.
  • We have not found a statement about the Sunday march from Sussex Police or the council.
