Brighton 0-2 Manchester United at Half Time — European Dream Under Threat

Brighton are 0-2 down at half time against Manchester United at the Amex Stadium, with European football slipping away from the Seagulls on the final day of the Premier League season.

Manchester United scored twice in the first half to put Brighton's European hopes in serious danger. The first goal came in the 33rd minute and the second arrived in the 44th minute, sending United into the break two goals to the good despite Brighton dominating possession.

How It Happened

Brighton have had 54 per cent of the ball in the first half but have failed to test United goalkeeper Senne Lammens once. The Seagulls have had four shots but none on target. Manchester United, by contrast, have been ice cold in front of goal — two shots on target, two goals.

A yellow card was shown to a Manchester United player in the 45th minute as both sides headed down the tunnel at the break.

What Brighton Need

Brighton need to score twice in the second half and keep United out to win this game and secure European football. A draw would leave their fate in the hands of other results. At 0-2 down, the Europa League place they started the day in is now under serious threat.

The Teams

Brighton are starting with Verbruggen in goal, a back four of De Cuyper, Dunk, Van Hecke and Kadioglu, with Wieffer, Gross and Gomez in midfield and Minteh, Welbeck and Hinshelwood further forward.

Manchester United are set up with Lammens in goal, Martinez, Maguire and Shaw at the back, Mainoo and Mount in the middle of the park, with Fernandes, Diallo and Mbeumo supporting in attack.

Half Time

Brighton 0-2 Manchester United. 45 minutes to save their European dream.
