Residents are being encouraged to hop on a bus and venture out to explore more of Brighton and Hove's green spaces, nature trails and walking routes, as part of a new council campaign. The idea is simple: leave the car at home, catch a bus, and let it drop you at the start of a beautiful walk.
Brighton and Hove City Council wants to make it easier for people without a car, or anyone looking to swap a car journey for the bus, to reach some of the city's most loved outdoor spots, from the South Downs to local parks and coastal paths, while cutting congestion and improving air quality along the way.
Eighteen walks, all reachable by bus
At the heart of the campaign is a new map bringing together 18 walks across the city, each one chosen to show off local landscapes, history and wildlife, and each one reachable by bus. Whether you want a short accessible stroll, a gentle wander or a proper hike, there is something for everyone, ranging from an easy 20-minute walk to a more challenging two-and-a-half-hour trek.
For each walk the council's webpage gives you a clear map showing the route, the bus services and the nearest stop, plus directions, distance and terrain, a downloadable map to take with you, and a link to a free walking app if you prefer to navigate on your phone.
Good for you, good for the city
The campaign is about more than a nice day out. By encouraging people to leave the car behind, it aims to reduce traffic and carbon emissions, support healthier and more active lifestyles, improve access to green spaces for all communities, and make better use of the city's bus network.
