Nine neighbours in Saltdean, on the eastern edge of Brighton and Hove, are sharing a £1 million prize after their postcode, BN2 8LT, landed the Postcode Lottery Millionaire Street prize on Saturday 10 October. The draw also sent charity funding to two Brighton organisations: £25,000 for The Sussex Beacon and £20,000 for Justlife.

Six of the winners had one ticket and took £83,333 each. Three had two tickets and doubled that to £166,666 each. Here is how the prize was shared, who the winners are, and what the two charities do.

How the prize was shared

Postcode Lottery says BN2 8LT won on its Millionaire Street draw, with the prize shared by the number of tickets each winner held.

6 winners
one ticket each, £83,333 each
3 winners
two tickets each, £166,666 each
Total
about £1 million, with the figures rounded

The lottery says the prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Education Trust, which supports organisations including Right To Play UK, Save the Children, The PTI and UNICEF UK.

Three of the winners

The lottery has shared the stories of three of the nine winners, with first names used here.

Zoe forgot to update her ticket. She sold her Saltdean home last August and moved to north-west London, but her ticket was still registered to her old address. That is how she ended up with a share of the prize. She plans to visit her son, who is a ski instructor, even though she has never skied.

I'd forgotten that I still had the ticket on my old house... It's been a wonderful shock.

Eveli was weeks from cancelling. She has lived on the street for around 11 years and says she had thought about cancelling her ticket only a couple of months ago. Her plans are a new kitchen and a festive trip to New York.

I was thinking of cancelling only a couple of months ago, and I'm very glad I didn't, because that would have been the biggest regret of my life.

Ann and John have a golden wedding to celebrate. Ann, a retired teaching assistant, has always joked that she would win big one day. The couple reach their 50th wedding anniversary in April 2027 and plan a cruise.

This has enabled us to go on a lovely cruise and have an anniversary to remember - the best anniversary ever.

£45,000 for two Brighton charities

The lottery says the winning neighbours were pleased to hear that local charities were funded as a result of the win. It names two, and says other charities in the area also received funding without naming them.

The Sussex Beacon: £25,000
Brighton charity supporting people living with HIV
The charity says it has provided specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people living with HIV since 1992
Postcode Lottery says it has helped people living locally with HIV for over 30 years, including a women's group and day service
The charity says it plans to become the first dedicated LGBTQ+ hospice with an HIV specialism in the UK, with its hospice clinical service unit due to reopen in 2027
Justlife: £20,000
Charity working with people living in temporary accommodation
Aims to make stays in temporary housing as short, safe and healthy as possible, and to help people move on into stable homes
Has a hub in Brighton and works with people across Sussex, as well as in Greater Manchester
Also carries out national research and policy work on hidden homelessness

Justlife has made a short film about its work, produced by Stories of Note and a finalist in the 2024 Smiley Charity Film Awards. Its figures on temporary accommodation are from 2024, so they may have changed.

What we could not confirm

  • the exact street. The lottery names only the postcode, and we have not tried to identify the street or any winner's address
  • which other local charities received funding, as the lottery says there were others but names only two
  • the full list of winners. We have used only the three stories the lottery published

We have not spoken to the winners. All quotes are as published by Postcode Lottery.
