Finding a public toilet in Brighton and Hove is now possible through a free app and website called Where To Wee, which lists Brighton and Hove City Council as a partner. The service covers toilets across the UK and runs on iPhone and Android.

Its own website lists 117 toilets for Brighton and says the app shows opening hours, whether each toilet is free or paid, and accessibility and baby changing details. It works offline once the toilets are loaded, according to the site, and needs no account.

What the app does

According to Where To Wee's website, you can:

  • find the nearest toilets, sorted by distance
  • filter by wheelchair access, grab rails and other accessibility features
  • see whether a toilet has baby changing facilities
  • check whether it is free or paid, and its opening hours
  • read cleanliness ratings and reviews from other users
  • use it without an account, and offline once toilets are loaded

The site says its listings come from open data, partner councils and community contributions, so details may vary from toilet to toilet.

The council's own toilet information

The council runs its own public toilets page, which covers a directory of toilets with opening times and facilities, accessible toilets and how to get a RADAR key, the Changing Places toilets, and a form to report a problem with a public toilet.

What we could not confirm

We did not find a council announcement about Where To Wee on the council's public toilets page, so we cannot say what the partnership involves. Where To Wee does not name a company or individual behind the app on its website. The 117 figure is the number Where To Wee lists for Brighton, not an official council count of public toilets.

Where this came from

This is our own write-up, based on what the Where To Wee website says about itself and what the council publishes on its public toilets page. Every detail is attributed in the text.
