Brighton and Hove City Council voted on 17 September 2026 to close Wellington House Day Centre, the last council-run day service for adults with learning disabilities in the city. Dozens of protesters gathered outside Hove Town Hall before the vote. The 21 current service users will be moved to external providers once individual transition plans are in place.

Brickfields, a new council-owned supported living scheme on the former Knoll House site in Hove, is complete and ready to welcome its first residents from mid-October. It offers 28 accessible apartments with 24-hour care for people with physical disabilities and acquired brain injuries.

Brighton and Hove City Council has launched a Civic Leadership Programme with Operation Black Vote, aimed at getting more Black and Asian residents into roles as councillors, magistrates, school governors and trustees. The programme launched at Afrori Books on 9 July.

Brighton and Hove City Council is backing local charity Pelican Parcels with new pilot funding to help more families access essential items for babies and young children, following a warehouse visit from Council Leader Bella Sankey and Councillor Mitchie Alexander.

Brighton and Hove City Council has been awarded Council of Sanctuary status, recognising its commitment to welcoming refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Councillor Mitchie Alexander received the award at a Refugee Day ceremony at Jubilee Library on 20 June.
