Vagabond Wines opens in the Lanes on 2 November with 100 self-pour wines

The self-pour wine bar takes over 3-4 Duke Street with more than 100 wines by the glass, Sussex-grown English wines and small plates, plus 50% off food at preview nights from 28 October.

Vagabond Wines opens in Brighton’s Lanes on Monday 2 November, bringing more than 100 wines by the glass, its self-pour wine machines and a menu of modern European small plates to 3-4 Duke Street.

The bar will be Vagabond’s first new opening outside London in five years, the company says, and it is offering a limited number of preview places with 50 per cent off food from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November.

How the self-pour bars work

Vagabond’s idea, in its own words, is “wine without the rules”. Instead of ordering a bottle, guests pour a taster, a half or a full glass themselves from the machines, choosing from more than 100 wines.

The company says it is designed to make discovering wine more social and accessible, whether you know your Bacchus from your Barolo or just fancy trying something new.

Sussex grapes and small plates

The Brighton line-up will include English wines made by Vagabond at its own Urban Winery in Canada Water, London, using grapes grown in vineyards across Sussex and the South East. The winemaker is Jose Quintana, who the company says grew up on a farm in Sussex.

The food menu is modern European small plates and sharing dishes. Vagabond lists burrata di Puglia, pil pil prawns, padrón peppers, Ibérico croquetas and hanger steak tagliata.

Preview nights and opening

The preview places run from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November, ahead of the official opening on Monday 2 November. To get the booking link, sign up through the bar’s SevenRooms page. Places are limited.

The bar is set across two floors, with space for 79 guests inside and a further 18 outdoor seats. Vagabond describes it as suited to after-work drinks, long lunches, dates and weekend catch-ups.

About Vagabond

Vagabond began in 2010 as a small wine shop in Fulham, London. It now runs 14 wine bars across London and Birmingham, staffed by people trained through the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, and was acquired by Majestic Wine in 2024. Its website has more details, and the opening is also in our November and December events guide.
