Grosvenor Street in Brighton has reopened after police and ambulance crews spent the afternoon dealing with an incident at a flat on Monday 2 November 2026. Sussex Police say emergency services were called at 12.15pm over concerns for the welfare of a man in a flat, and that at 4.30pm he was placed into the care of the ambulance service.
ImJustBrighton contacted Sussex Police on Monday afternoon after a reader reported a large emergency response beside Brighton Youth Centre, off Edward Street. The force sent a statement, then an updated one once the street had reopened.
This follows our earlier report on the incident, published while the street was still closed.

What a witness saw
A witness who was at the scene told ImJustBrighton what they saw. They asked not to be named, and their account is what they saw, not police figures.
The witness first got in touch in the afternoon. They said there were seven police cars at the scene and that the dead-end road leading to the block of flats was shut. They described two ambulances on the road and said a fire engine had been there earlier. According to the witness, the police cars arrived around 12, and officers went into the flats carrying first aid kits and large bags.
They later added more detail. The witness said they saw four police cars pull into the road at around midday, and watched from a room overlooking the flats as officers went into the building carrying first aid kits while other residents looked out from their balconies. They said police tape went up around the area, and that by late afternoon there were around seven police vehicles and an ambulance. They also reported two fire engines arriving earlier. At first they thought the fire engines had left, but later said they were still there. They said officers were walking up and down the road, also carrying large bags into the building, but were not giving any information to people nearby.
