One in four children in Brighton and Hove is living in poverty. The city has the highest homelessness rate in Sussex. A new independent review is recruiting residents with lived experience of poverty to sit on a panel and help shape real solutions. Applications close 19 June 2026.

Brighton has always had a darker side hidden beneath the postcard views and busy seafront crowds. From the ruins of the West Pier to the underground tunnels beneath the Royal Pavilion, the city is filled with stories that locals still talk about today.

Police have formally identified the three sisters recovered from the sea off Brighton beach, as enquiries into the tragedy continue. The women were from the London area and their family are now being supported by specialist officers.
