A new short comedy, A Wrong Turn, will have its premiere at The Walrus in Brighton on Sunday 1 November. The film was produced and directed by Eastbourne filmmaker David Mills for Ohwa Film, from a screenplay by writer and theatre director Liz Tait.
The event is fully booked, but the story behind the film is one of local people making something together. It was shot in one day, with one camera and a two-man crew, and it features local actors.
What A Wrong Turn is about
The press release describes the film as “a light-hearted comedy about miscommunication, connection and middle-aged adults searching for their place in the world.”
The film’s own page on the Ohwa Film website gives the set-up. A wet and awkward stranger joins the open evening of a local theatre group called the Sandstone Players. He works his way through the group’s drama exercises and catches the eye of Claire, a lonely member who is looking for new talent. The page lists the film as The Wrong Turn, a working title, with a running time of 12 minutes.
The cast is Antony Reed as Owen, Helen Rogers as Fran, Kate Peltzer Dunn as Claire, Chip Peltzer Dunn as Phillipa and Liz Tait as Maggie. The same page credits Mack Harris as grip and Fred Mills on sound.

The premiere at The Walrus
The screening takes place on Sunday 1 November at The Walrus, 10 Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AD. The press release says the event is fully booked.
According to the Brighton and Hove branch of CAMRA, The Walrus is spread over several levels. There is a pub on the ground floor, a restaurant upstairs, a roof terrace and garden, and a basement music venue called The Underbelly.
The premiere is also meant to bring local film people together. The press release says it offers “an opportunity for local film creative workers to meet, exchange ideas and explore opportunities to collaborate on future projects.”
The people behind the film
The press release says Mills leads Ohwa Film in Eastbourne and is developing a slate of film and television projects. The company’s website describes it as “a boutique group of creative professionals focused on writing and developing content for video, film, and TV.” Its project slate lists three projects: The Wrong Turn, Crescent and Hummingbird.
Tait wrote the screenplay. The press release says she brings a background in theatre writing and directing, including her production “Who Do They Think They Are?” Her profile on the Ohwa Film website describes her as a Sussex-based playwright, producer and director from Worthing, and says that production was a Spice Girls-inspired comedy that sold out in Brighton in 2025 and is touring this year, ending at Greenwich Theatre in London. The profile also says she is developing a new comedy called “Charity!”
Speaking about the film, Mills said:
“We are proud to mount this new film and bring together local film artists to talk about ways to work together and collaborate more often.”
