Bonfire Night is Thursday 5 November 2026, and the main organised fireworks display in Brighton and Hove is Fireworks Night at Hove Cricket Ground on Saturday 7 November, with gates at 5pm and fireworks from about 7pm, according to Sussex Cricket.

Lewes holds its famous bonfire processions on 5 November, but organisers and the emergency services are asking people who do not live there to stay away. Here are the dates, times, ticket prices, the law on fireworks and the fire service’s safety advice in one place.

Which night suits you? If you want a ticketed, seated or standing fireworks night in Brighton and Hove with live pre-show entertainment, Hove on Saturday 7 November is the one we can confirm. If you are not a Lewes resident, the organisers’ advice is to celebrate nearer home on 5 November.

Lewes Bonfire on 5 November: should you go?

Lewes Bonfire is on Thursday 5 November, and the emergency services, councils and transport companies behind a joint travel and safety release are asking everyone who does not live in Lewes not to travel to the town. Roads close from 4.45pm and trains are not expected to stop at Lewes and four nearby stations from 5pm.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service gives the same advice in its Stay Safe This Bonfire Season: Choose Local Events notice, which says people who do not live in Lewes should not attend because of the crowds and narrow streets. For the closures, last trains and ticket prices, read our Lewes Bonfire road closures and last trains guide. For the story behind the night, see why Lewes burns.

Hove Cricket Ground Fireworks Night: times, tickets and rules

The Sussex Cricket event page says Fireworks Night 2026 takes place on Saturday 7 November at Hove Cricket Ground, BN3 3AN. Gates open at 5pm, pre-show entertainment starts at 5.15pm and the fireworks start at around 7pm. The event is in aid of the Sussex Cricket Foundation, and buyers can choose to donate when they book.

Tickets. Prices for adults and under 16s are standing £15 and £12.50, wheelchair accessible areas £15 and £12.50, reserved seats in the Cow Corner Sharks Stand £22.50 and £17.50, and reserved seats in the Spen Cama Pavilion £35 and £25. Children under 3 go free but still need a ticket. The early bird discount ended on 8 October.

Buy in advance. The page says tickets must be bought in advance and that the ticket office is closed on the gate, so buying online beforehand is strongly recommended. We have not seen availability, so check the page before you plan your night.

What you can bring. Snacks and water are allowed. Alcohol, hot food and picnics are not. Bags must fit an A4 size, and small umbrellas are allowed but must be closed during the display. Food and drink outlets will be on site.

The page does not list parking or transport details, so check the route before you travel and allow extra time on a Saturday evening.

Chailey and other East Sussex bonfires

The same East Sussex Fire and Rescue notice lists organised bonfire and firework events across the county. Closest to Brighton and Hove, it names Chailey on Saturday 7 November and Barcombe on Saturday 21 November. It also lists Mountfield on Friday 6 November, Wadhurst on 7 November and Rye and District on 14 November, with the Rye date still to be confirmed.

The notice gives dates only, so we do not have start times, entry prices or booking details for these. Check with the organisers before you go.

Is there a public fireworks display in Brighton city centre?

We could not find a confirmed public display in Brighton city centre or Preston Park from an organiser, and East Sussex Fire and Rescue’s 2026 list does not name one in Brighton or Hove. If you run a display, email info@imjustbrighton.co.uk and we will add it.

Fireworks rules in England: the law this Bonfire Night

GOV.UK’s Fireworks: the law page sets out the rules. Free to save and share.

Fireworks rules in England: age 18 to buy adult fireworks, not allowed 11pm to 7am, Bonfire Night cut-off midnight, no fireworks or sparklers in streets or public places, registered sellers 15 October to 10 November, up to 6 months in prison and an unlimited fine

In short, you cannot buy adult fireworks if you are under 18, and it is against the law for anyone to set fireworks off between 11pm and 7am. On Bonfire Night the cut-off is midnight. You must not set off or throw fireworks, including sparklers, in the street or other public places.

Registered sellers can sell fireworks for private use from 15 October to 10 November. You can be fined an unlimited amount and imprisoned for up to 6 months for selling or using fireworks illegally, and you could get an on-the-spot fine of £90. GOV.UK says to check with your council for any local rules.

Fire service safety advice

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Brighton and Hove, published its Choose Local advice on 3 September 2026. It says:

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service logo
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

“We strongly advise not having a bonfire or setting off fireworks in your own garden or private spaces.”

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, 3 September 2026

The service says it is especially concerned after recent hot weather, because fires can spread quickly. The government has since declared severe drought in parts of East and West Sussex, on 15 October.

If you still plan to have fireworks at home, its firework code includes these steps:

Plan the display and check the legal firing times. Buy fireworks with the UKCA mark and store them in a closed box. Read and follow the instructions on every firework. Light them at arm’s length with a taper and stand well back. Keep fireworks away from naked flames, including cigarettes. Never go back to a lit firework, and never carry fireworks in your pockets or throw them. Point rockets well away from spectators. Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire, and make sure the fire is completely out before you leave.

The service also says only adults should set up displays, light fireworks and dispose of them, alcohol and fireworks should not be mixed, and children should be supervised and watch from a safe distance. It says organised events work with the fire service and partners and have management plans and risk assessments. Candles are another risk at this time of year, covered in our candle fire safety week report.
